What is Floating Clock?
Floating Clock is a lightweight application very configurable for OSX that displays a window on the screen with information about time, date and caps lock status.
The main purpose of Floating Clock is to provide information about the date and time to have that information available even when the user decides to hide the menu bar in osx. In those cases, when system clock is hidden, the unobtrusive Floating Clock window becomes very useful.
Floating Clock also provides useful timers. You can configure as many as you want and when they are timed they launch a system notification.
As a bonus, Floating Clock can also show the status of the caps lock key.
Features
Floating Clock is very configurable. Almost everything can be configured:
Clock:
- date and time formats
- possibility to override locale settings
- font size / window size
- background color / opacity
- foreground color / opacity
- show / hide caps lock status
- show / hide date
- show / hide time
- activate / deactivate popup window when caps lock changes
Timers:
- behaviour of the timers when the application starts
- background color / opacity of timers
- foreground color / opacity of timers
Floating Clock window can be moved to any position on the screen:

Preset positions:
- top left
- top center
- top right
- middle left
- center
- middle right
- bottom left
- bottom center
- bottom right

Custom positions:
- Floating Clock window can be dragged to any position on the screen
- up to 3 custom positions can be saved

Multiple monitor support:
- Floating Clock window can be moved to any monitor
Timers window can be freely moved to any position on the screen regardless of the clock position
- Timers can be dragged to any position on the screen
- Timers window can be moved to any monitor
Floating Clock windows, clock and timers, are non obtrusive:
- Position, size, background and foreground colors and opacities and visibilities can be configured and customized
- When the mouse is over the Floating Clock window or the timers window, the windows are automatically hidden to show what is below Floating Clock
an unlimited number of timers can be set, from one second to many hours
- timers window is also unobtrusive
- pressing the shift key prevents the timer window from being hidden and thus the timer can be started, stopped or resumed from the controls
- the timers window can be moved anywhere on the screen regardless of the clock / date-time window
- timers can be made visible / invisible independently
- when a timer is over, Floating Clock sends a notification to the system notification center
Floating Clock allows the user to set and customise system global hotkeys for:
- show / hide the Floating Clock window
- show / hide the timers window
- enter / exit from drag mode (to move the Floating Clock window)
Floating Clock can show a flag to mark when the caps lock is on or off
- When the caps lock status changes from on to off or from off to on, a popup icon is shown briefly on the screen to warn the user about the change
Floating Clock resides in the Menu Bar so it is always available and it can be easily controlled
Benefits
- When the menu bar is hidden, you cannot see the date an time information. With Floating Clock you can hide the menu bar and still have the date and time information
- You can display personalized information about date and time anywhere on the screen and on any monitor
